Just when you thought that with the upcoming arrival of summer things should be getting better, not completely but gradual anyway, the issues facing Canada in regards to COVID infections is now getting worse as the weeks go by. In Ontario, the situation has grown very worrisome and the stats that we see is now forcing the governments hand.
If there is one thing we should learn from this it is that getting through COVID still takes another level or two of commitment from Canadians as a whole for the rest of 2021 because all these setbacks and believe me that this is a major setback will mean that we might be dealing with some sort of measures for the rest of 2021 and possibly into 2022's winter season.
Frontline workers, businesses, majority female and minority service workers have borne the brunt of the hardship in one way or another since the beginning of COVID. The rest of us who still can work 40 hours a week or have the ability to stay home and are not forced to go out unnecessarily need to pick up that slack and support those workers who absolutely need to leave their homes for work to avoid defaulting on rent. It seems very selfish for people to not understand at this point in the COVID games that wearing masks and not having mass gatherings is part of our collective looking out for each other. So whether its people protesting having to wear a mask or people holding nighttime street parties in Toronto or rioting in Old Montreal, it serves only to hinder the great work and progress we have seen by everyone concerned and sacrificing daily to get back to a new normal. In that sense, the government of Ontario probably has no other option than to take these measures and that will lead to other provinces following Ontario, particularly Quebec and Manitoba who share a border with Ontario. Let's hope the provincial border restriction does not last as long as the Canada/U.S. border.
