Look, I'm tired of seeing this man on television now. Not because I don't like the man but because I know that if I see him on television, on the news, that it means something bad happened.
Once again Kenrick McRae's "run-ins" with police made it to the news as McRae says he was intercepted by Montreal police (SPVM) who were looking for a Black person and Mr. McRae "fit the description". To McRae's credit, he has been trying to keep the fire to the feet of Montreal police for all the times he has been stopped yet not having a blemish to show for these stops.
If you can believe that McRae has not filed a fifth complaint against Montreal. What happened in the other four? Does it even matter? Those of us who live in Montreal and happen to drive decent cars (not me by the way) know well enough that we are targets for racial profiling by Montreal police. Even after the SPVM was supposed to come up with plans to work with officers to stop the racial profiling of Black drivers it still continues. Black drivers in Montreal and suburban areas like Repentigny, Laval, Chateauguay and other areas continue to complain about being stopped for no reason. Just looking at Montreal police, however, the question remains. What racial sensitivity plans does the SPVM have for their officers and how is it being implemented? The SPVM say they don't profile but you can go ahead and tell that to Kenrick McRae and the hundreds of Black drivers who will be stopped this year (am I lowballing?) alone for no reason.
I mentioned on an Instagram post that I hope that the next Mayor of Montreal finally deals with this issue with the SPVM. The local elections are in November 2021 and maybe, just maybe this should be a focal point when the Black community decides which mayoral candidate deserves their vote because as of now local leaders on all sides have had nothing to say as usual.
