I know I don't even have to ask how many of you are ready for the end of all these restrictions and curfews and restaurant closings etc. However, it seems that as we move into our 2nd summer with COVID a part of our lives that the end of the tunnel is now more visible than it was last summer.
The further we go along more and more Canadians are being vaccinated with their first dose, so much so that governments are now talking about giving the 2nd dose earlier than previously planned. This is great news for everyone who wants us to get closer to ending the pandemic as we can and get back to a sort of "new" normal and not necessarily the same normal pre-pandemic which is one of the reasons why some communities were hit harder with COVID than other communities. Now that is a story for another day. Let's not kid ourselves though, we want some semblance of normalcy no matter how you quantify it.
In Quebec, the provincial government has ended the curfew which had been in place since the 2nd week of January and has allowed restaurants to open their terraces for service although in-door dining still must wait just a little while longer. In a food city like Montreal where terraces are a summer must, this was the first big news for businesses looking to get back customers who have been kept away or reduced to online ordering since last Fall.
Quebec has gone back and forth from being the worst provinces in Canada in handling COVID to one of the best at its reopening and now as the economy starts to slowly open up I'm hoping people still remain responsible. Having beach parties of hundreds of people not wearing masks is still not the greatest idea, neither is getting ahead of ourselves attending events that have lots of people in a closed environment which is still happening, unfortunately.
We are almost through this pandemic, kind of like when Ironman and Spiderman almost got the Infinity Gauntlet off Thanos in Infinity War before Peter Quill lost his mind (Yes I went there). We do not need people cutting us all off short by not obeying social distancing rules however with that said I'm ready for summer and I hope you are too. While there may not any travel for me this summer, I am still looking forward to the terraces and restaurant dining to come.
